WELCOME TO FAIRFIELD HOUSE!
Nestled in seven acres of beautiful woodlands and gardens, Fairfield House is one of Nelson's most prestigious historic homes. Its spacious verandas and unique observation tower have gracefully overlooked the city since 1872. Now, lovingly restored to its former glory, Fairfield House stands as a unique tribute to community activism. It is, in so many ways, close to the very heart of Nelson. Fairfield was blessed as a place of peace by His Holiness The Dalai Lama when he visited here in 1996.
Today, this unique heritage building is available for hire as the perfect venue for any occasion. Its beauty, warmth and grandeur are yours to enjoy.
Make your event a success at Fairfield House!

The House and Gardens

Fairfield House has significant venue flexibility with a range of beautiful rooms and spaces available for hire, all of which have wheelchair access:

The Ballroom This space has easy ground floor access from the car park, with french doors opening onto the wide verandas and gardens. With a view down to the cathedral and over the town, this is our largest room at 12m by 6m. It can seat 90 for a lecture presentation or 80 for a seated meal. The ceilings are high and the flooring is wooden. This is a wonderful natural light filled space, perfect for weddings, conferences, parties, performances or workshops.
The Gallery Our second largest room is The Gallery. This special room can seat 40 for a presentation and has high ceilings and wooden floors. Its french doors open onto our beautiful courtyard with its flower gardens and paths leading up into the reserve.
The Court Yard With its spiralling brick floor pattern this is a popular location for the wedding ceremony or a break out space for conferences held in The Ballroom or Gallery. At night, with the fairy lights twinkling romantically in the trees and greenery, this is the perfect place for a BBQ or candle light celebration!

Fairfield has a spacious fully equipped kitchen for your use. Catering can be arranged on request.
The Meadow This area which is situated to the east of the house features a main lower terrace lawn (approximately 30m x 20m); a series of stone wall seating areas and a smaller upper terraced lawn (approx 18 x 10m). This stunning outside space is perfect for ceremonies, gatherings and performances. Guests and visitors are welcome to explore the trails leading up into our seven acres of woodlands, which overlook the meadow.
The Meeting Room This room is in The Sanctuary, a separate building from the main house and can accommodate up to 20 people. It has a carpeted floor and is an ideal space for small meetings or workshops. (5.5m x 4.5m)
The Meditation Loft You are welcome to use this tranquil meditation space, which is equipped with cushions and is situated above The Meeting Room.
The Observatory Tower This was first built by Arthur Atkinson, the original owner of Fairfield House, as an astronomical observatory in 1882. It was reconstructed in 1995 by Friends of Old Fairfield.
