Since 1980 Fairfield has been
restored and managed by the non profit organisation "Friends
of Old Fairfield".
The house and gardens today are the living product of countless hours of volunteer labour, donations and energy.
The special atmosphere so apparent to visitors, is partly the architecture,
partly the painstaking efforts that have gone into restoration, but
mostly it is a reflection of the energy of the people that were and
are determined that Fairfield will be a living part of Nelson's community
heritage. |

The property is owned by
the national Department of Conservation who delegate the management
to the incorporated society. The "Friends of Old Fairfield"
are charged with restoring and enhancing the unique character of this
historic house, while running Fairfield as a community resource.
Regular meetings are held and people with a strong interest in Fairfield and its heritage are warmly welcomed.
