Jacquie Walters and James Wilkinson
Jacquie Walters and James Wilkinson will be returning to Fairfield House to launch Walters’ new album “Light for a Broken World” after adverse weather caused the cancellation of the singer-songwriter’s much anticipated launch in February.
Jacquie is known for her stunning vocals and moving, topical song writing. James is one of New Zealand’s best guitarists and a mesmerising bass player and adds his unique playing style and vocals in support of Jacquie’s original material.
The new album has already garnered positive reviews, including the following comments from muzic.net.nz reviewer Corinne Rutherford:
“Jacquie’s descriptive storytelling seems to effortlessly flow through her song writing, this is further enhanced by a beautifully lyrical voice…unquestionably some incredible song writing…James Wilkinson complements Jacquie with his enchanting instrumental and vocal accompaniment. The sound of bass adding another layer of depth to a selection of tracks.”
James and Jacquie have shared concert bills in various band iterations over the past 26 years and recording Jacquie’s new album at Bob Bickerton’s studio in Nelson was a fantastically positive experience for the duo.
“We loved recording with Bob and having the luxury of spending time over several months to put the album together,” says Jacquie. “I was also writing new material as we were recording and there was an exciting momentum to the whole process which we think is reflected in the album’s energy.”
Jacquie and James’ last concert at Fairfield in 2017 was sold out and they are looking forward to sharing new music with a focus on material that appears on the “Light for a Broken World”.
