Richard Gilewitz Acoustic Adventures
Richard Gilewitz, American fingerstyle guitarist and entertainer, charms the audience with mixtures of tunes sprinkled with stories about the composers who have influenced acoustic guitar music, while adding his own quirky insights into life in general. Pulling from over four decades of playing, he continually speaks through his 6 and 12-string guitars as a master of moods who is always at the service of his inner voice. His performances are laced with sounds from traditional to blues, Americana to European Classical, and folk to pop with thought-provoking journeys into the mind of a traveling raconteur.
He’s played venues large and small from Nova Scotia to Australia, Austria to New Zealand, The Netherlands to California, and points in between. He’s shared the stage with a list of folks such as Richard Thompson, Leo Kottke, Warren Zevon, John Prine, Taj Mahal, Indigo Girls, the band America, and John Hammond.
Richard began honing his skills both as a performer and composer during the late 1970’s at the University of Alabama, playing the local coffeehouse circuit while pursing degrees in Computer Science, Mathematics, and Music. Following graduation, Richard placed his musical calling in the background and joined the world of flight simulation design, telemetry and satellite systems. The 1980’s brought Richard to Florida where he released his first LP recording, Somewhere In Between. As the pull of his passion for performing and recording became so compelling, Richard left corporate life to teach and perform full time in a career that has propelled him into an international music arena.
Over four decades of well-honed technique and years of worldwide touring have created a signature sound that has been captured on audio, video, and live as Richard’s music rings out long after the show is over. He has gone on to release seven more recordings plus a number of educational materials with TrueFire.
