SUMMARY:Rennie Pearson. Traditional Celtic Music

His engaging stage presence and storytelling opens the door for audiences to connect with the music\, which he plays on the wooden flute\, Irish tin whistles\, guitar\, bodhran and voice. \nRennie grew up in Wellington with Celtic music in his blood. He picked up the flute at age 8\, learning by ear in Irish sessions under the guidance of Galway born flute player Pat Higgins. With Irish music as the cornerstone of his knowledge\, he then went on to delve deep into the traditional music of Scotland and maritime Canada\, on the way gaining proficiency in a wide range of different instruments. \nRennie has made a name for himself in the Irish music scene of New Zealand and Australia. He has performed with great traditional musicians such as John Carty\, Catherine MacEvoy\, James Kelly and more. In 2021 he toured with Irish dance sensation\, Celitica\, as their flute and bodhran player. He also released an album with fiddler and small-piper\, Oscar West as the kiwi folk duo\, ‘Polytropos’\, in 2020..At the age of 19\, he studied with wooden flute virtuoso Chris Norman on the east coast of Canada\, as a live-in apprentice. SUMMARY:THE UNSUNG HEROES of the South Island
DESCRIPTION:The Unsung Heroes tell stories from New Zealand’s settler past in finely crafted theatre\, music\, and song\, with old newspaper articles & Poems that deftly introduce each song’s central character. \nA photographic slideshow of historic images as accompaniment\, with\, gorgeously evocative music and words\, and Elliott’s old style radio diction\, sharp timing\, and dry humour all predictive of ways we have come to see ourselves. \nChris Priestley… NZ Historian\, fine musician\, singer\, songwriter\, and originator of the Unsung Heroes. Over the last 40 years\, he has recorded original music compositions and sung songs about Aotearoa New Zealand. \nCameron Bennett… is a storyteller. From his days as a cadet newspaper reporter to author and Foreign Correspondent he’s explored the stories and newsmakers behind the headlines\, both here and around the world. \nNigel Gavin… is a multi-award-winning musician. Nigel has long been a featured player in New Zealand’s music scene\, particularly in Auckland\, playing 7 string guitars\, banjo\, mandolin\, bass – indeed\, almost anything with strings – with the Nairobi Trio\, Lorina Harding\, Wayne Gillespie\, Whirimako Black\, and many others. \nPeter Elliott (ONZM) … has been integral to the development in the unique creativities of New Zealand theatre\, film\, and television\, as actor\, producer\, presenter\, and advocate for other actors. He trained at the Court Theatre in Christchurch and appeared in more than 60 TV dramas\, over a dozen documentaries\, various films\, and more than 80 plays\, musicals\, and opera throughout the country. He has a passionate interest in NZ history and has been thrilled to be involved with Unsung Heroes over the last few years. \nSonia Wilson… is “a living\, breathing human Womad Festival”. Born and raised in Paris\, France\, UK-educated and now based in Auckland\, the Franco-American singer\, songwriter\, and musician had a dizzying musical apprenticeship. A member of gospel and Acapella choirs from a young age\, her music has taken her from the streets of Paris\, across the Kenyan savannah\, through remote Himalayan villages\, and then ’home’ to New Zealand. \nThis is a fascinating musical concept\, based on actual people and events that occurred in our colonial history. You won’t believe your ears – or the incredible stories contained herein. DESCRIPTION:The Unsung Heroes tell stories from New Zealand’s settler past in finely crafted theatre\, music\, and song\, with old newspaper articles & Poems that deftly introduce each song’s central character. \nA photographic slideshow of historic images as accompaniment\, with\, gorgeously evocative music and words\, and Elliott’s old style radio diction\, sharp timing\, and dry humour all predictive of ways we have come to see ourselves.\n\nChris Priestley… NZ Historian\, fine musician\, singer\, songwriter\, and originator of the Unsung Heroes. A member of gospel and Acapella choirs from a young age\, her music has taken her from the streets of Paris\, across the Kenyan savannah\, through remote Himalayan villages\, and then ’home’ to N.Z. \nThis is a fascinating musical concept\, based on actual people and events that occurred in our colonial history. DESCRIPTION:Just imagine a musical fusion of Ab Fab\, Miss Piggy and the Topp Twins  and you’ve got a pretty accurate ideas of what these two are all about. Music ranging from folk\,country\, blues and self penned these ladies can deliver. \n“We take our music very seriously but we love to have fun too” \nBoth are famed for their beautiful voices and between them play several instruments. Not to be taken lightly these girls have impeccable pedigrees when it comes to musical careers. Between them and sometimes together they’ve worked with Van Morrison\, Richard Thompson\, John Martyn\, Fairport Convention\, Joan Armatrading\, Ralph Mctell (blah blah –  the list is endless ) and they are too modest (old) to remember them all – Needless to say highly respected by their peers \nThey’ve toured the world\, played major festivals and events (did ya spot Gilly at Live Aid?)  and armed with nothing but their voices\, charm and prosecco they thrill audiences  everywhere.  Both of them born in the UK but now happily living in New Zealand. Here are just some of their favourite reviews \n“I want to be like them when I grow up”  from an admiring young female musician (anonymous) \n“They brought the house down with their voices\, music\,  fun and laughter”  The Observer \n“Listening to them made me cry– in a good way. Go see them if you can “ Sydney Herald \n“Soft and peachy”   The Guardian  \n“Slightly bonkers but jeez they can make music”  Mojo \n“Superb voices and musicianship with a great sense of fun included”  Evening Standard
