SUMMARY:WEREWOLF
DESCRIPTION:Binge Culture presents\nWEREWOLF\nBy Joel Baxendale\, Freya Daly Sadgrove\, Karin\nMcCracken\, Oliver Devlin\, & Ralph Upton \nTheatre has never been this thrilling… Wellington’s iconic theatre collective Binge Culture have re imagined the classic game of deception Werewolf into a smash hit horror-theater experience. \n Watch out – it is coming to you! in the Fairfield Ballroom\, the first stop on their nine locations Tour across Aotearoa this May. \n….Anything can happen in the dark if you’re not paying attention. \nA thrilling new live experience from Binge Culture\, Werewolf feels almost like a game by daylight – but takes on a whole new life when plunged into the night. \nAre you paying attention? \nWerewolf features a unique immersive performance format – audience members can be a fly on the wall or take charge of the situation. However you decide to play it\, the whole room is part of a makeshift community coming together to make it through the night. But what is hiding in the darkness that is making everyone so nervous? \nBinge Culture are responsible for boundary pushing productions such as app-driven adventure Big Data\, and Edinburgh Fringe successes Whales and Break Up [we need to talk]. Playing on the wild swings between solidarity and divisiveness of recent shared experiences\, Binge Culture’s newest venture recontextualises a popular party game into a live experience that interrogates our fear of the unknown.\n“A clever commentary on mob mentality and fearmongering; how quickly humans can turn into monsters” – Regional News \n Binge Culture invites audiences to come together for a communal experience\, a deliciously tense thrill and something completely different for an evening out with friends. Intuitive\, chilling\, and somehow also quite funny – Werewolf is a celebration of exquisitely communal\, live theatre. \nWerewolf features a chilling sound design by Oliver Devlin (Hans Pucket) and gripping performances from Karin McCracken (Yes! Yes! Yes!\, Aliens & Anorexia)\, Arlo Gibson (Owls Do Cry\, Destination Mars)\, and Joel Baxendale (All Your Wants and Needs\, Destination Mars). \nTickets limited – don’t blink\, book fast on EVENTFINDA.CO.NZ

SUMMARY:Gilly Darbey and Vikki Clayton - Return of the Divas
DESCRIPTION:Just imagine a musical fusion of Ab Fab\, Miss Piggy and the Topp Twins  and you’ve got a pretty accurate ideas of what these two are all about. Music ranging from folk\,country\, blues and self penned these ladies can deliver. \n“We take our music very seriously but we love to have fun too” \nBoth are famed for their beautiful voices and between them play several instruments. Not to be taken lightly these girls have impeccable pedigrees when it comes to musical careers. Between them and sometimes together they’ve worked with Van Morrison\, Richard Thompson\, John Martyn\, Fairport Convention\, Joan Armatrading\, Ralph Mctell (blah blah –  the list is endless ) and they are too modest (old) to remember them all – Needless to say highly respected by their peers \nThey’ve toured the world\, played major festivals and events (did ya spot Gilly at Live Aid?)  and armed with nothing but their voices\, charm and prosecco they thrill audiences  everywhere.  Both of them born in the UK but now happily living in New Zealand. Here are just some of their favourite reviews \n“I want to be like them when I grow up”  from an admiring young female musician (anonymous) \n“They brought the house down with their voices\, music\,  fun and laughter”  The Observer \n“Listening to them made me cry– in a good way. Go see them if you can “ Sydney Herald \n“Soft and peachy”   The Guardian  \n“Slightly bonkers but jeez they can make music”  Mojo \n“Superb voices and musicianship with a great sense of fun included”  Evening Standard

SUMMARY:A writer's journey\, when fact & fiction collide.
DESCRIPTION:The Nelson Institute presents author Chris Stuart’s talk – A writer’s journey\, when fact and fiction collide. Chris’s crime novel\, For Reasons of their Own\, won  the 2021 Ngaio Marsh Award for best first novel. \nFor Reasons of Their Own is a bleak chronicle of implacable fate\, revenge\, and murder set in 2014 in and around Melbourne\, Australia\, Originally\, this novel was conceived as an autobiography but turning it into fiction has allowed the author to write with more creative freedom. Chris calls herself a writer with a social conscience and is fascinated by the social context in which a murder takes place and this is at the beating heart of her novel. \n   Crime Fiction Critic\, December 8th\, 2021\, USA: Anyone who enjoys reading excellent crime\, mystery\, and thriller writing will love this book. I’m left eagerly anticipating what Stuart will do for an encore after writing such a brilliant and extraordinary debut novel. \nChris has worked for twenty years as a humanitarian worker with Red Cross\, Oxfam and the UN in war zones and disasters\, mainly in the Middle East. She’s witnessed the best and worst of humanity and deeply admires the strength and resilience of people who endure and thrive despite the most harrowing of circumstances. She’s influenced by Charles Dickens\, Colin Dexter\, Graeme Greene\, Ian McEwan and PD James and likens her detective to a combination of characters she’s met in her humanitarian work. \nNB. Because of road works approach Fairfield House from Trafalgar St. Usual parking pertains\, either road side or carpark.

SUMMARY:Solitude
DESCRIPTION:DramaLAB’s award winning solo show ‘Solitude’ \n“When the Roaring Lion calls my Henry\, I’m dreaming hours down to minutes…” \nIn 1913 Annie fled into the remote mountains of Kahurangi National Park to live a hidden life with her lover Henry Chaffey in ‘Asbestos Cottage’. Forty years in raw exile\, swallowed by the silence\, enslaved by the fire. This honest\, touching true story is about Annie Chaffey’s love\, loneliness\, loss and laughter. An old story from a new perspective. \n “Solitude is storytelling at its finest. Writer\, director and performer\, Martine Baanvinger\, is utterly compelling\, humorous and breathtakingly honest as Annie. Not only is this an interesting New Zealand story but it is told by an expert in an incredibly imaginative and touching way.” –  Lisa Allen\, Nelson Fringe Festival review. \n“Baanvinger draws on her training in physical theatre to create striking images of this life. The text is superbly crafted\, words are well honed\, poetic\, evocative and practical in even measures. The action on stage is complemented by an evocative and haunting soundtrack created by Mark Manson.”  Lisa Simpson – Theatreview  \nTickets @ Humanitix.com

SUMMARY:Equinox Sound Journey with Sika
DESCRIPTION:A potent way to enter your springtime in balance\, influenced by the equal day and night of the equinox. \nJourney on the waves of ancient sounds played live by Sika – morphed and mixed into powerful worlds within worlds \nThis Sound Journey begins with a short guided visualisation to set the scene. \nAncient instruments\, didgeridoo\, flute and drum with the natural sounds of wood\, stone\, shell and bone. \nAn epic adventure deep into a land that exists in magical realms. A Sound Journey that is more like an orchestrated soundtrack to your life’s movie. \nPlease bring something comfy to lie on\, a blanket and cushion. \n•••••••••••••••••••••••••• \nBio: \nSika is a Master Sound Artist based in New Zealand. He is dedicated to creating music and sound experiences that enhance our spiritual and human relationship with nature. Emerging into the UK festival scene 1993 Sika’s first events saw his audiences lying down with their eyes closed in what has now become globally accepted as a Sound Journey. \nThe didgeridoo forms an important foundation for his music\, however he also uses drums\, native flutes\, voice\, Maori instruments and more recently even orchestral elements. Pushing the limits of this musical genre\, his live events and studio recordings serve to open our ears and really listen. \nGiving voice to wood\, skin\, bone\, stone and shell\, his work reflects a lifetime of listening to the rhythms and sounds of nature. Life is a sound journey! Other sources of sound such as water\, fire\, trees\, animals and wind are used with the intention to build soundscapes that enable us to journey within. \nAfter years of gathering and making instruments\, Sika has recorded eleven solo albums. \nAs a collection these projects tell the story of a man who has followed his yearning to create a life grown from the roots of the past\, but sowing the seeds of the future. \nTickets @eventfinda.co.nz
