SUMMARY:Nelson City’s Autobiography in Buildings with Christopher Vine
DESCRIPTION:Fairfield House warmly invites you to join us on: \nSunday 9 June 2024 2pm \nNelson City’s Autobiography in Buildings. \nA virtual stroll around our City with Christopher Vine.. an illustrated talk. \nTo be followed by the unveiling of Christopher’s mural for Fairfield and afternoon tea. \n“During the 60 years I have made Nelson my home\, recording and writing about its buildings\, the truth of Ruskin’s view that nations inadvertently write their own autobiography in their art and architecture has become evident. Even at the scale of one small city\, I think it is possible to draw conclusions about society from early colonial times to present merely by looking around us. As a former conservation architect in England\, I have written many illustrated articles about New Zealand since arriving in 1964\, culminating in material for my book\, Nelson Observed”. \nTickets here – $10. RSVP essential. \nIf the $10 entry fee is a barrier to you attending we still welcome you. Please get in touch with Catherine on 027 467 2127 to book your place.

SUMMARY:Takadimi
DESCRIPTION:Takadimi\, led by Manjit Singh\, is a cross-cultural musical odyssey merging ancient classical Indian\, jazz\, and world music forms in the space of a single performance. \nCollaborating with exceptional musicians from both New Zealand (Nathan Haines\, Avantdale Bowling Club) and India (Taufiq Qureshi\, Dilshad Khan) Takadimi’s compositions represent a fusion of cultures\, bridging gaps between Eastern & Western genres. \nManjit Singh\, recognized for his innovative arrangements\, received high acclaim for his integration of Indian classical elements in a nominated song for the prestigious 2019 Silver Scrolls. Having studied under the tutelage of tabla maestro Fazal Qureshi from Mumbai and holding degrees in Musicology and Jazz\, Manjit Singh is globally respected as a hybrid musician\, bridging the worlds of Indian and mainstream music. \nHis passion for teaching Indian classical music led him to being a leader in the New Zealand Indian community and\, more recently\, as a faculty member at the University of Auckland. \nTogether\, Manjit Singh and Daljeet Kaur form the soul of Takadimi\, adding an extra layer of richness between calming and electric modals. One moment\, the audience may be lulled into a trance by the ethereal Hindustani vocals and sitar playing of Daljeet; their souls carried away on waves of harmonic sound. And in the next instant\, the room pulses with vibrant energy as Manjit takes the stage\, his fingers dancing across the tabla\, playing melodic rhythms faster than one can keep pace of\, yet perfectly synchronized to the tight Jazz progressions of his fellow talented band-members. \nWith their distinctive sound and a shared vision of bringing Indian arts into the mainstream\, Takadimi invites listeners on a musical journey that celebrates the power of cultural collaboration. \nDOORS OPEN – 7PM \nMUSIC – 7:30PM \nTICKETS – https://events.humanitix.com/takadimi \nFB: facebook.com/takadiminz\nInstagram: instagram.com/takadiminz/

SUMMARY:Sacred Voice Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:This is a magical space where we light the candles\, slow down and chant and sing medicine and heart songs. Like a Kirtan but the majority of the songs are in English and we’re aiming to create a blissful space for releasing stuck tension\, singing our hearts out and leaving connected and filled.\n\nThis is an experience unlike other voice activation or ceremony you may have attended. Through using our own voices and the collective power of sounding in a group\, we can clear through energetic and emotional blocks in our own systems and release anything not serving us.\nThe aim is to sing and chant ourselves into a dream-like state where everything feels magical and connected. You do not need to know how to sing. This session is about using your voice to drop into your body in a more blissful and expansive way\, opening ourselves up to powerful and transformational vibrational shifts.\nWe will sit together\, in ceremonial space\, using the chants and songs as a way to activate;*a meditative state*free vocal expression*intention and prayer*reconnection to self and others*emotional release*fun and fullness\n\nDetails:Date: Sunday 16th JuneVenue: Fairfield House\, 48 Van Diemen StreetTimings 6.30-8.3pm (Arrive ready to start at 6.30pm)\nInvestment : $25 (low income) -$35 (Regular ticket)Note: If you’re experiencing financial difficulty but want to attend\, please reach out.\n\nBenefits:*A noticeable shift in energetic state*A feeling of connectedness and open heartedness*Learning of powerful and meaningful medicine chants and songs*A greater understanding of how powerful our individual and harmonious collective voices are*Confidence with self-expression\n\nBring:*Something to shake or your medicine drums*A meditation cushion/yoga mat to sit on to be comfy on the floor.*Your own water bottle.\n\nYour guideI am an intuitive facilitator\, musician and guide\, focusing on Sound and Ancestral Reconnection work. I have strong connection to sound\, spirit and nature energies and through creating ceremony\, I weave these elements into all my work.I have a background in coaching and hypnotherapy mixed with 15 years of formal music education\, resulting in a particular interest in song\, musical empowerment and supporting self-expression. I have formal training in family constellation and generational trauma release work and I am a certified trauma-informed practitioner and crisis intervention trained. I have an array of workshop holding experience from over 10 years in the corporate sector leading large groups\, and from running my own healing offerings and spaces.Above all\, this work is about healing\, empowerment and courageous authenticity.\n\n‘The sacred song circles are a beautiful experience out of time and space. I usually don’t sing but in this super safe and welcoming environment I discovered a real pleasure in using my voice! A meditative\, healing and empowering experience I recommend to anyone.’ AG\, CHCH participant since 2021

DESCRIPTION:This August the international trio PANGAEA will again be touring NZ where they will showcase their blend of Indian and Western music in a series of concerts throughout the South Island and lower North Island. \nIt has been 4 years since the groups last NZ tour was unexpectedly cut short due to Covid19\, forcing the trio to cancel its remaining shows and scramble for the last seats on the last flight out of the country back to India. \nIn the interim the trio has maintained a distant working relationship and there have been reunions in India for tabla player Saptak’s marriage and in 2023 for a successful tour of India. \nThis years NZ tour will be covering some of the ground left aside in the previously abandoned tour\, letting the audiences there finally get the chance to hear the group perform live. \nFor those who are new to the group\, this will be a chance to experience two of India’s top young Hindustani Classical musicians melding their ancient style together with Western Classical\, Folk and modern Singer songwriter traditions. \nConsisting of Saptak Sharma (2019 All India Tabla Comp. winner) on Tabla and percussion\, Mayank Rainer on Bansuri (Flute) and Sitar\, and Mike Hogan (NZ) on Guitar and Vocals\, PANGAEA covers a wide range of styles in their shows. \nFrom Indian Classical through to Irish\, South American\, Bollywood\, Blues\, Folk and more\, the group showcases the diversity of its musicians and follows the ethos of PANGAEA\, a universal musical continent where all genre of sounds can reside. Be ready to be taken away by the stunning speed and dexterity of India’s best and the beautiful form and harmony of the West. \nDoors open 7pm \nMusic from 7:30pm \nTICKETS $25 from Humanitix – Click HERE \nFairfield Bar will be open from 7pm.

It is ultimately designed to help people develop wisdom (self-realisation). Yuan Gong is a subsystem of the Ren Xue Wisdom teachings. For more information you can visit Ren Xue International’s website \nAbout the movie: \n“Any Given Moment” is the miraculous story of Norberto Rodrigues\, a young Portuguese man who turned to ancient mind-body practices in a last-ditch effort to heal a totally debilitating back injury. Through his dedication and perseverance\, Norberto not only healed his back injury\, but he also found himself on an unexpected journey of inner growth\, awakening to true freedom. \nWatch the trailer or book your ticket for the screening here (Koha appreciated). \nAbout the day: \n9 am Arrival & Welcome \n9.30 Movie Screening \n10.30 Q & A session \n11.45 Light Lunch \n1 pm Closing
