Combining driving rhythms\, melodic brass and beautifully alluring vocals\, Niko Ne Zna creates unforgettable moments for their audiences. \nThe 9-piece band have firmly cemented themselves as one of New Zealand’s premiere and sought after world music groups\, complete with wonderfully hypnotic melodies and cerebral rhythms that draw from the Balkan region.Based in New Zealand’s creative and cultural capital of Wellington\, all nine members are formidable instrumentalists and composers in their own right. \nTheir current lineup consists of two trumpets\, soprano saxophone\, bass and tenor trombones\, sousaphone\, balkan bass drum (tapan) and snare drum\, an exotic cocktail of instrumentation and musicianship that creates an atmosphere and vibe like no other. SUMMARY:The Desotos Acoustic Routes Tour '25
DESCRIPTION:Americana and country blues artists The DeSotos are hitting the road again this March for a 5 date tour that incorporates a Wellington appearance and four upper South Island shows. We are lucky to have them join us here at Fairfield House! \nThis will be their sixth time touring these acoustic shows\, including having to abandon the March 2020 tour halfway through because of the Covid lockdown. \nAs the name suggests\, these shows feature the band in acoustic mode with Paul using exclusively acoustic guitars\, Vic providing brushed drums\, and Stuart pinning it all down on the bass. \nIn the words of Gary Steel “Both Gurney and McIntyre write brilliantly. The DeSotos music oozes genuine emotion and makes all the right moves”. \nTheir live shows are defined by the quality of the vocals and instrumentation\, and the intimate sound landscape created by these highly experienced musicians. \nTheir mix of country blues and folk-inflected songs includes many of the band’s original compositions\, and selected covers from the likes of Neil Young and Tom Petty. \nSome earlier American songbook pieces from Arlo Guthrie\, Bob Dylan and Jimmy Reed are also in the playlist. \nThe DeSotos on tour are: \nPaul Gurney (lead vocals\, guitars\, blues harp)\nStuart McIntyre (bass\, vocals)\nVic Singe (drums\, vocals) \nTimings: Doors open 4pm\, music from 4:30pm \nLocation: Outdoor event in the courtyard\, will move indoors to the Ballroom if wet \nFood & Drink: Fairfield Bar and pop up kitchen will be operating serving delicious kai for dinner and local drinks! Strictly no BYO due to our special license. \nTickets: $20+BF available HERE. Door sales available if not sold out prior.

SUMMARY:Zen Public Talk: Meeting Adversity Honestly
DESCRIPTION:With Zen Buddhist Teacher Shugen Roshi. Everyone experiences difficult people\, circumstances\, times and lives. In this evening discussion\, we’ll explore how our meditation practice – mindfulness\, compassion and clear seeing – help us develop our natural capacity to meet adversity with patience and equanimity\, kindness and compassion. Yet\, although these are important virtues in Buddhist practice\, if not practiced honestly\, they can be used as “blankets” that we cast over our thoughts and emotions in another attempt to avoid what is painful. Therefore\, dharma practice must be sincere and courageous if we are to truly free ourselves and bring benefit into our world. \nEntry to this by public talk is by koha.
