SUMMARY:The Joys & Challenges of Motherhood
DESCRIPTION:Hannah and Gabriela welcome you to this morning workshop for mothers who want to cultivate more of their presence\, clarity and collaboration. \nThe cultural seeds of tomorrow live and grow in your children. And you are not meant to raise them alone. \n“Joys & Challenges” is a 4-hour village-building experience for mothers who long for connection\, skills\, and sacred space to be real about the wild ride of parenting. This is not a lecture or a parenting tips session. It’s a circle and co-created adventure – a place to stop\, breathe in and slow down\, a place where your feelings are welcome\, your voice matters\, and your growth is celebrated. \nFor more information and to register see form here.

SUMMARY:Wine and Crime Murder Mystery Night
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our first Wine and Crime Murder Mystery Night at Fairfield House! \nThe theme is: A Dickensian Christmas “Murder at the Mistletoe Ball”.\nAn Original Immersive Theatre Experience at Historic Fairfield House. \nCreated by the award-winning team behind The Barden Party and proudly produced by Fairfield House\, this brand new immersive murder mystery is a festive night of secrets\, scandal\, live music\, and Victorian intrigue. \nIt’s 1874\, and the newly widowed Lady Rose Blackthorne has invited a curious collection of guests to Fairfield House for a midwinter Christmas ball—the first since the untimely death of her husband\, Lord Blackthorne. The occasion? A celebration of the Christmas season… and the reading of his final will. And you are invited.  \nBut as long-lost heirs return\, fortunes are contested\, and old family tensions reignite\, something darker simmers beneath the tinsel and wassail. Strange happenings unsettle the night\, and when a murder occurs\, every guest becomes both suspect and sleuth. \nInspired by A Christmas Carol\, Agatha Christie\, Cluedo\, and Knives Out\, this murder mystery experience blends sharp wit\, historical flair\, and interactive sleuthing in a candlelit Victorian setting. \nExpect 2 hours of mystery\, midwinter Christmas charm\, and live music woven through a richly theatrical evening.  \nCostumes requested. Ticket holders will receive character invitations with backstories\, costume suggestions\, and arrival instructions after booking – names and email addresses of EACH participant must be entered so characters can be sent individually. Participants will be able to interact as much or as little as their comfort levels allow. Tickets are limited to 50 participants only so get in quick. \nVenue: Fairfield House\, Nelson\nDuration: 2 hours \nPrice: $65 per person – includes a drink on arrival and festive nibbles.\nLimited tickets – bookings essential. Book now.\nPeriod music\, suspicious guests\, and yuletide secrets await… \nRSVP here

SUMMARY:One-day dharma retreat with Shugen Roshi

SUMMARY:Zen Public Talk: Meeting Adversity Honestly
DESCRIPTION:With Zen Buddhist Teacher Shugen Roshi. Everyone experiences difficult people\, circumstances\, times and lives. In this evening discussion\, we’ll explore how our meditation practice – mindfulness\, compassion and clear seeing – help us develop our natural capacity to meet adversity with patience and equanimity\, kindness and compassion. Yet\, although these are important virtues in Buddhist practice\, if not practiced honestly\, they can be used as “blankets” that we cast over our thoughts and emotions in another attempt to avoid what is painful. Therefore\, dharma practice must be sincere and courageous if we are to truly free ourselves and bring benefit into our world. \nEntry to this by public talk is by koha.

SUMMARY:The Desotos Acoustic Routes Tour '25
DESCRIPTION:Americana and country blues artists The DeSotos are hitting the road again this March for a 5 date tour that incorporates a Wellington appearance and four upper South Island shows. We are lucky to have them join us here at Fairfield House! \nThis will be their sixth time touring these acoustic shows\, including having to abandon the March 2020 tour halfway through because of the Covid lockdown. \nAs the name suggests\, these shows feature the band in acoustic mode with Paul using exclusively acoustic guitars\, Vic providing brushed drums\, and Stuart pinning it all down on the bass. \nIn the words of Gary Steel “Both Gurney and McIntyre write brilliantly. The DeSotos music oozes genuine emotion and makes all the right moves”. \nTheir live shows are defined by the quality of the vocals and instrumentation\, and the intimate sound landscape created by these highly experienced musicians. \nTheir mix of country blues and folk-inflected songs includes many of the band’s original compositions\, and selected covers from the likes of Neil Young and Tom Petty. \nSome earlier American songbook pieces from Arlo Guthrie\, Bob Dylan and Jimmy Reed are also in the playlist. \nThe DeSotos on tour are: \nPaul Gurney (lead vocals\, guitars\, blues harp)\nStuart McIntyre (bass\, vocals)\nVic Singe (drums\, vocals) \nTimings: Doors open 4pm\, music from 4:30pm \nLocation: Outdoor event in the courtyard\, will move indoors to the Ballroom if wet \nFood & Drink: Fairfield Bar and pop up kitchen will be operating serving delicious kai for dinner and local drinks! Strictly no BYO due to our special license. \nTickets: $20+BF available HERE. Door sales available if not sold out prior.
