Sunday March 28 Up close and intimate with Anna Coddington 7.30pm Tickets $25 Reservations essential: 03 548 3640
Anna Coddington is one of New Zealand's foremost heroines of independent pop music, as is evident on her debut, self-produced album 'The Lake', released in June 2008. Coddington has sung with Bic Runga, Anika Moa, SJD, Dimmer and also on the casually released pop gems by her former bands Handsome Geoffery and Duchess.
After a busy year in 2009 touring here and overseas, performing with Fly My Pretties and Eru Dangerspiel, and furiously writing and recording demos for a new album, Anna is eager to get back on the road. She will be presenting some of those demos as fully grown songs!
Ms Coddington has a unique talent for writing beautiful songs with a twist of reality. We are delighted to be hosting her. This promises to be a magical concert.

Sunday 11 April Gilly Darbey (UK)

Gilly has been thrilling audiences all over the world with her sublime voice. After touring 'down under' her rapidly growing reputation for superb singing is causing a real buzz! Her latest CD 'Just Like a Woman' got a rave review in NZ musician.
Her emotional and sensual interpretations of blues / folk / jazz and gospel have had many likening her favorably to the late Eva Cassidy, but her voice is also reminiscent of Joan Baez, Katie Melua and early Joni Mitchell.

"Her voice is simply stunning. It is amazing the sound that can come from one woman and a guitar". Quietly lovely, then strong enough to be heard two blocks away... Hauntingly beautiful! She sings like an angel." Kiwi Folk Club
"In listening to Gilly Darby, one gets the distinct impression that this is the voice of a woman who has sung her entire life, a woman at ease with the voice she has and with the considerable talent she possesses." Te Miringa Hohaia, Parihaka Peace Festival.
"I just can't imagine anyone not loving the feel, sensuality and emotion in Gilly's voice" Stuart Robertson...ABC Radio.

Friday 30 April Bohemian Nights (Australia / Eastern Europe)
8pm Tickets $15 Bookings Ph.5483640
Violinist Ernie Gruner and accordionist/singer Phil Carroll draw from diverse sources: Gypsy, Klezmer, Middle-Eastern, French, Italian, Russian, jazz and tango. Their music ranges from soulful to wild. They have both studied overseas, and play and record together in larger bands (Klezmeritis, Yalla!, Flirting Mazurkas).
Ernie specializes in Jewish music and Phil specializes in Middle-Eastern music. They have worked together on and in theatre and dance events for Russian, Armenian, Jewish, Turkish, French and Italian communities.
Australian concert highlights include the National Folk Festival and National Multicultural Festival. Phil and Ernie≠s five NZ tours have included the Wellington & Dunedin Folk Festivals and the Christchurch Jazz Festival.
This is lively passionate gypsy music to dance away your troubles by; played on abrasive fiddle and wheezy piano accordion, Bohemian Nights is reminiscent of Hungarian goulash, red wine, French bread, Gitanes cigarettes and sensuous painted ladies from the thirties...
To say they can get the feet of the dead tapping is putting it mildly, and to say they bring a slice of music and life from beyond these shores is nothing less than fact, even though they were born here. Their cultural heritage glows, and we are all the richer for it. Ernie is a violinist of extraordinary talent; Phil plays the accordion and sings with stylishness and heart.
